3 out of 5 stars Good For The Price...Kind Of   July 11, 2010

I have had the Agile AL-2000 for about a year. Mine is the tobacco finish. It was my first electric, but I found a few bad things about it. I play mostly classic rock. Here are the pros and cons.
Pros:
-Cheap! At this price I was able to buy an amp that was more expensive than the guitar.
-Looks exactly like a Les Paul
Cons:
-No truss rod
-will not stay in tune
-Not good pickups

This guitar is a good value. I have been playing guitar since 1965, and I have owned many electric guitars over the years -- some of them American-made Fender and Gibson guitars. This guitar compares favorably to them for the price. It is a Korean-made guitar which is manufactured for an American, family-owned business (Rondo).

I read rave reviews of this model online while searching for a good Les Paul copy. So, I decided to give it a try. I am glad I did. First, I bought an Agile AL-2000 in tobacco sunburst with a standard width neck (1 5/8 inch at the nut). I loved the guitar, but I wasn't diggin' the narrow neck. So, I ordered another AL-2000 in Cherry Sunburst Flame-Top with a wide neck (1 3/4 inch at the nut). The CSB Wide is the one I kept.

I have small hands, but I found the wide neck to be more comfortable than the standard. The string spacing is a little wider. I advice you to give careful consideration to neck width before you place your order.

Gibsons are made from South American Mahogany. These guitars are said to be made from a Mahogany-like Asian wood such as Red Meranti, but it works. The body on my Cherry Sunburst was made from four pieces plus the two piece Maple veneer top. The Cherry Sunburst finish looks great!

The binding is perfect. You can see a few blemishes through the finish where a ding in the raw wood was treated with filler, but it doesn't bother me considering the price. The fret work is excellent, and they come with Grover tuners which work well. The ceramic pickups are good, but I will eventually install better pups.

You will need to set-up the guitar. If you don't know how, you should take it to a guitar tech. I lowered the action (string height) a bit, raised the pickups a bit, and adjusted the intonation. You will also need install better quality strings.

5 out of 5 stars Great guitar   August 22, 2009

This is a guitar I really want to play. The sustain is great. The finish great. The only objection is that the maple veneer doesn't line up perfectly, but for around $1000 more I could get that. For the price this guitar is well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars The only guitars I will ever buy   July 6, 2009

I bought my guitar about a month ago, and wanted to play with it for a while before I gave my review, as this is my first guitar.

IF YOU BUY this guitar (which I highly recommend you do if you're looking for a good beginner/intermediate (maybe even expert, from the reviews I've read) guitar), then do yourself a favor and replace the strings right away, they're so horrible that they're worth replacing with cheap strings from WalMart!

Otherwise, it plays great, amazing action right out of the box, neck is as STRAIT as a freaking laser beam, perfectly set-up guitar, the only guitar I think I'll ever see that actually gets sharper as it goes out of tune rather than flatter (I swear this actually happens, the neck isn't bending back or anything, like I said, it's strait!), but it only did that until I replaced the strings, now it stays perfectly in tune, I only need to retune it if I put it in my bag and the knobs get nudged around. Sounds great, sustain is practically twice as long as my crappy bass, it just keeps going like the energizer bunny!

Now on to the looks. This is a beautiful guitar, beautiful wood grain, amazing finish, and about the only thing that I take pride in keeping clean. My bass just gets put in its corner when it wants me to clean it. I love this guitar like it's my child. I would love to practice at work, but I'm way too afraid of it getting stolen. If this guitar ever does leave me though, I would hands-down buy the exact same one not only because of it's great price, but because it's just a great and beautiful guitar.

And finally, at only $200, what do you have to loose?

5 out of 5 stars Excellent guitar, smart purchase   November 28, 2007

This guitar is just excellent, is stupid paying 2,000 for a gibson when only with 199.99 you can have this one, the picture is only a shadow of this art work, the sound is good, I played a gibson before and this one is the same, when you buy a gibson you pay for a name, but an agile is good performance, I play it in my 30 watt amp and is great.
I recomend this guitar to everybody, good quality, great sound, low price.
